By Audrey O

Where are the deer who bounded once so gracefully through the fields, Where are the birds who sang their praise as daytime sunshine yields, Where is the vole who went to sleep in frozen winter caves, Where is the seal once far below the rocking, rolling waves, Where is the wolf who once did howl at the full October moon, Where is the snake who left his path ‘a winding cross the dune, Where is the trout who made its home in crystal, mountain, lakes, They’re gone, dear brother, forevermore because of our mistakes
