Lyla stepped out of the house and looked up and down the street. Cars were flying past. Literally. Hovering cars were a new thing nowadays. Her dog barked from around back as she stepped off the porch into the sunlight. Tall skyscrapers framed the sky. You could barely see the clouds without glancing up at a building as high as the Chrysler Building. Her keys jangled in her pocket as she made her way to her garage door. She fumbled with her phone as she tried to get the keys.
“Stupid technology.” She huffed angrily. She hated all this new tech. It was so simple back when she was a kid, but now it was annoying to deal with. She opened the car door and plopped herself inside. The turned the ignition and reversed out of the garage. The car hummed underneath her hands as she turned onto a busy street with lights paving the way for lost travelers. The lights turned from a soft yellow to a bright blue. She rolled her eyes as she drove past them. Her eyes scanned the road for pedestrians as she controlled her car.
“GOOD MORNING, LYLA.” An animatronic voice said. The car had a speaking component.
“Good morning, Sylis. Take me to Greenbear Estates, please.” Lyla asked. The car dinged and turned onto a small side street. She breathed a sigh of relief as the car took over. Even though she hated it, she loved to lean back and relax.
