Second Time Around

by Ellen L

Verse 1

Didn’t see that there would be

A second chance for you and me. It was a risk I took to say goodbye.

Harsh words ripped you away.

Verse 2

It rained long and hard in my heart

It took all my strength to stay apart

Hushed rooms offered hope.

The light on ancient tiles wrote

The story of our life.

Chorus:

Second time around.

Love knew no bounds.

Our vows rang true.

Just as the wind blew.

Through hardy junipers.

Under desert stars.

Bridge:

In the village square

An old man pointed to the air.

A rainbow appeared in the sky

Circling the sun up high.

Offering light to the day.

Verse 3:

There were nights in far off rooms.

I wondered if I should go it alone.

In twisted alleys in Istanbul

I began to break my own rules.
