One day I was sitting Tried to write a tune I Stargazed the night away Stared at the jealous moon looked for inspiration In the willow’s graceful sway I was left without an answer And nothing left to say, except Have all great songs been written? Have all great tales been told? Have all the best ideas been had In the times of old am I just stuck here waitin’ For a muse long dead So I’ll just sit here thinking till I may rest my head My search for inspiration Was without success I slipt into my nightgown and I laid down to rest Then to sleep departed To dream ‘twas swept away Saw no vision of Euterpe Much to my dismay I ask Have all great songs been written? Have all great tales been told? Have all the best ideas been had In the times of old am I just stuck here waitin’ For a muse long dead So I’ll just sit here thinking till I may rest my head Once more I awakened Sorrow in my soul Wishing that a song would be what finally made me whole I offer you this Melody Work of a fool or work of art So finally, this question From my lips departs Have all great songs been written? Have all great tales been told? Have all the best ideas been had In the times of old am I just stuck here waitin’ For a muse long dead So I’ll just sit here thinking till I may rest my head Oh, Have all great songs been written? Have all great tales been told? Have all the best ideas been had In the times of old am I just stuck here waitin’ For a muse long dead So I’ll just sit here thinking till I may rest my head I’ll just sit here thinking till I may rest my head
