I Want

A Poem by Molly B

I don’t talk to you much

But I want to

I want to talk to you, have you laugh at my jokes and say

You’re funny

I want you, to be in awe of my stories, for you to say

You’re interesting

I want to introduce you to my many friends that unfortunately don’t exist

And when you meet them, turn to me and say

You’re popular

I want you to take me to a party, look at me and say

You’re pretty

I want to go to the movies together, maybe a scary one

At the end, after grabbing your hand with fright several times, turn to me and say

You’re amazing we should hang out more

Then I look at you from across the room, see your friends

I look back down at my book, sigh to myself

Scold myself for dreaming too far, and say to myself what I already know

It’s never happening I want to talk to you, have you laugh at my jokes and say You’re funny I want you, to be in awe of my stories, for you to say You’re interesting I want to introduce you to my many friends that unfortunately don’t exist And when you meet them, turn to me and say You’re popular I want you to take me to a party, look at me and say You’re pretty I want to go to the movies together, maybe a scary one At the end, after grabbing your hand with fright several times, turn to me and say You’re amazing we should hang out more Then I look at you from across the room, see your friends I look back down at my book, sigh to myself Scold myself for dreaming too far, and say to myself what I already know It’s never happening
