They leap out of bed

All rush downstairs

Immediately run to the presents

Got the quickest of flares

Wrapping paper rips

Gifts are opened

What did you get? 

How do you feel? 

All I feel is broken

Let’s restart

Let’s go back how it used to be

When everything was euphoric

 And colors surrounded the tree

Everything was so surreal

I just felt so… free

I jumped out of bed

I ran to the tree

But before I opened my gifts 

I wanted to see

I wanted to see if Santa ate my cookies

The ones I spent last night preparing

Not only did he eat them, but he left a note

He is just so caring

In the note there was a line that stuck out

All it said was

 Stay true to what you care about

I’ve kept that letter with me since that day…

But back to the story

And after I opened my presents

My parents asked me

What do you care about? 

I thought about it all day

And when we all sat down for dinner

I told my parents

I said

I only live once, life goes by fast

But if I were to offer something 

Something that would last

It would be nostalgia 

The memories I have made cannot be replaced

I can’t just forget them

Leave them without a trace

So I’ll live my life to the fullest

At my own steady pace
