Every time a Black person is killed and mistreated, there is a story we need to hear and a life we can not forget.
Emmett Till: Some think Emmett Till‘s death was the spark that began the Civil Right‘s Movement. Atrocities like this are still happening - has anything really changed?
George Floyd: Is there a difference between being lynched, killed by a gun and having a policeman kneel on you? Just different ways to kill Black men.
Breonna Taylor: Brutal, Terrible, Horrible to say the least. We owe it to Breonna, are we ready to bring equality, justice and fairness to our country?
Ahmaud Arbery: A tragedy. No one should be gunned down. Especially those accused of of a crime without having any evidence to support that claim. How could this have happened?
Jacob Blake: This Black man had one knife and was shot seven times. That math doesn’t work. How would he want his story to be told?
Sandra Bland: It has been a little over 5 years since the incident of Sandra Bland. People usually get a ticket at the most, for failure of signaling when changing lanes, but Sandra, a black woman, died. Have we done enough in the last 5 years?
Mya Hall: Two problems are evident; that once incarcerated, there is not enough support when set free and how can we help Black people find their voice in the LGBTQ community?
Brett Thomas Barton: This is my cousin, Brett. We shared our birthday. Brett went into a coma while in the custody of the police. He later died in the hospital. I believe his story would have been told if his mother, my aunt hadn’t passed away from cancer. How can we preserve their legacy ?
These are just a handful of people who have died in an unjust world. There still a great number of stories that go untold. But these lives matter, and they can not be forgotten.
