i open my mouth expecting words to
start streaming out, yet all that escapes is
a shallow scream begging for help and you.
you’ve hurt me, though i now call myself his.
i remember cheating off your quizzes,
till you faced me expecting something more.
later, i became the girl who misses
the one who said, “nothing left to restore”.
i find myself thinking back and deplore
my behavior, claiming we were lovers,
but we were just sixteen. so, i ignore
my thoughts because i am no longer hers.
but he had found his way into my life
and claims i have the makings of a wife!
